Another City Trash Truck Accident Not Reported to Police
April 20th, 2012 by Joe BurgessFor the second time in recent months, a City of Monticello trash truck has been in an accident, and police weren’t notified.
In October, around 3 am, one morning, a city driver backed into a car, causing considerable damage, and didn’t report it to his supervisor or police. An investigation followed, but no charges were filed.
Monday, around noon, the driver of one of the city’s trash truck’s backed into a utility pole on Gaines Street, near Parkway Bank. The building’s there have recently been leased to Dayspring Behavioral Service, and will house their youth treatment center.
City offices were notified of the incident, however according to Mayor Allen Maxwell the damage was to minimal to notify law enforcement for a collision report.

So the Mayor thinks the trash trucks crashing into personal and private property is no big deal?! Yet he finds it necessary to call in law enforcement for kids riding their ATV’s on the grass around the lake!?!? He just couldn’t tell them to leave and not do it again, he had to make a big production out of it!! What a loser.
Is it not against the law to do damage to anything an not report it. That does appear to have damage. Most company’s require you to report it than have a drug test on the driver. Why is the Mayor minimizing this situation. I sure bet that if a citizen hit a city item he would be calling for a apb for the one that hit.
Anyone know who the driver of the city truck wuz of the last incident?
Maybe its time for another porta potty-like incident? Hmmm. To allow this to slide…… ’nuff said. Are there impeachment procedures for mayors?
I work for a public facility myself and I do not understand any actions have not been taken with theses truck accidents. I for myself think the driver should be cited or at least be held accountable for his carelessness. The first one was on work hours at his girlfriends house why was there nothing done about that.
My car was the one that was ran over in the first incident. I think it is absurd this continues to happen. Granted the city paid for the repairs to my car, but what if that pole happened to have been a human being? Please! Someone make this stop before someone gets seriously hurt!
Does the Mayor work for the utility company? Doubt it or he would know how much they charge to replace there poles, including labor and delivery. They charge a heap to replace these poles and don’t think they are going to do it at their expense, he will be hearing from them. I also think he should be cited, just another reason for our utilities to go up.
These guys are spewing havoc on anything that gets in their way. It’s a good thing the Mayor got a firm grip on those people throwing Jacuzzi’s in the dumpster in the park though, they need to be held accountable! That right there is what’s important, making sure the Citizens are under firm control so the Trash Men of Monticello can throw empty cans on folks Christmas lights, do thousands of dollars worth of damage to Citizen’s cars, clip a utility pole now or then…Pathetic..
Not to mention the safety issue and on a major rode. I would figure that if that pole fell and lands on someone or something the mayor will offer to pay all damages out of his pocket. Would not hold my breath.
if a bus driver did that they would have to take a drug test or ose there job. the same could be for all driver
Sounds to me like some drivers need to go to Truck Driving School. With great power comes greater responsibility. It has been my experience for many years of driving deisel powered trucks that if you have a CDL license you have to be more responsible for your actions. It is a bigger vehicle and the driver must maintain that vehicle because they have other peoples lives at stake. I understand that accidents do happen, but come on when it like this it sounds like it may be a problem or total disregard for safety. Will it take this driver backing over someone for the City to do something. We pay taxes so the City can operate but if this driver does this and nothing is done by City or Mayor except pay for damages, next thing they will be going up on our taxes because they dont have enough money. This driver should be held responsible for his actions!!!!
