City Street Overlays Planned
September 29th, 2011 by Joe BurgessThe Monticello City Council, at their recent meeting, approved the yearly city street overlays, which are divided as close to evenly between the city’s wards as possible.
Ward 1 began with a discussion about the water line problems below Maple and Speer Streets, where galvanized water lines run under the street, and constantly has to be repaired. Overlaying these two streets will soon have to be patched, whenever the next leak occurs.. Mayor Maxwell told the council that these lines need to be replaced, instead of making repairs to the lines and the streets, over and over. The water lines need to be moved to the side of the streets, then do the overlay. Tim Chase suggested holding the funds for Ward 1, til the water lines are replaced, then overlaying the streets.
Ward 1 will also overlay Hazelwood and Rose Streets ($47,885).
Ward 2 will overlay the concrete on Spring Branch Drive from the curve to the end, plus Bellaire, and Country Court ($105,000).
Ward 3 will have West Trotter, East Bolling, and part of North Church Street overlayed. ($105,000)
Ward 4 will overlay Spruce Cove, Glenwood (north side), Bolling Street (HWY 425 to Borchardt), and part of University Heights subdivision ($104,874.00)

Did any of the council members drive through Parkwood? Are they missing? If so, check the craters in the streets to see if their cars might be stuck in one of the larger craters.
