City Records 449 Water Leaks Since 2007, Considering “New Main & Meters” Project
August 28th, 2012 by Joe BurgessOngoing issues with the city’s water system led to an indepth discussion at the August City Council meeting.
Tony Ardillo, of Siemens, and R. Dennington Moss, of Faulkner Pipe, discussed repairs of water mains and meters for the city.
Brian Rodgers presented computer graphic display of the city’s water system. Last October the city started using GPS to detect water leaks. Since October, it’s showed over 100 water leaks, 80% of which is in the “core” of the city.
Since the city started mapping in 2007, a total of 449 leaks, along with their causes, and repair costs have been documented.
Also the constantly leaking water main under Maple and Speer streets have been replaced, so pending street overlays won’t be damaged; the new water mains are now located on the right-of-ways, not under the streets.

They should also discuss their water turn on policy. Someone should be home when they come to turn your water on. I was a victim of our city government, which by the way, you cannot sue, which caused damage to my property. I have evidence of city employees who witnessed their faulty equipment yet the city didn’t even bother to offer me any assistance to repair my home, instead, they put a “new meter” in. I do not think I should have used my insurance for that purpose at all since it was their employees negligence and their faulty equipment which apparently they have been “in the know” about.
