City Hall Implements Clause from 8 Month Old Sanitation Memo for Veteran’s Day – Edited
November 8th, 2013 by Joe BurgessRemember back in February when Monticello got the new “automated” trash recepticles that could be dumped automitically by the trash truck? Remember the 4-5 pages that were wire-tied to the handle? One of those notes stated, “All trash must fit into cart and lid must close.”
With Veteran’s Day being Monday, and many family celebrations being planned, the City of Monticello has chosen this week to enforce that clause.
As shown by the many trash cans with lids raised to some extent at these West Bolling homes, the City is leaving many resident piled up for the weekend.
When contacted by MLive, Mayor Maxwell’s office pointed out the note from that February letter, and said there would be no exceptions or “re-runs”. We were told that residents would have their trash picked up on the next regularly scheduled day.
An especially noteworthy issue is that the Sr. Citizen’s Center, which prepares meals for our elderly residents, will now have to go 2 weeks without having their trash dumped.
MLive had posted a photo of a city council member’s trash cans with a lid lifted by its contents, alongside the same cans after being dumped. We were contacted by a representative of that office, who told us that they were advised of the policy, and pressed their cans down to an acceptable level, before it was dumped by the city. Further investigation reflects that the second can was dumped on a second trip, which led to the confusion about the apprearance of favoritism.

If you thought the people who work for the city answered to the people of the city, I guess you were kinda confused.
They should still be running twice a week larger family can barley do the once a week and then with holidays people will have trash everywhere this was not to better the city it was just another was to show the world how cheap Monticello is
Just the other day I was behind a new trash truck and it seemed to pick up trash cans that looked like those above… So why does it matter. Maybe the should have made the trash cans bigger!!
Thank You City of Monticello for picking up my trash even though my lid did not close completely. I am sorry for putting too much in the can. I was too busy driving to Little Rock for my radiation treatments to worry about it being closed. This is a sincere Thank You. I appreciate the city employee that went beyond his job description to take care of me.
It shouldn’t matter we pay taxes therefore the city should pick trash up we don’t like paying taxes but we do it anyway!
Good job Joe.
My trash can is the first one pictured on your site. I don’t feel the lid being open is any problem for the person picking it up. However when you are fighting
cancer, all of this hoopla over a trash can is just foolish. THINK ABOUT IT

Just wait until thanksgiving and christmas. Then you will see the biggest mess of your lives. Id like to know what the city will do then. It will definitely be interesting. A lot like a car wreck. You dont want to see it, but cant help but look.
