City Council Updated on Sadie Johnson Center
October 25th, 2010 by Mandy MossAt Thursday’s meeting, Mayor Rogers reported that the city is still waiting for the insurance company to act in regards to the recent fire that destroyed the Sadie Johnson Community Building. Mayor Rogers reported that the insurance company had stated it would be 2-3 weeks before they will do anything.
The current insurance policy on the building is for $175,000 worth of coverage and there is an additional $20,000 coverage for contents. Mayor Rogers estimated the cost of rebuilding a similar structure at $400,000-$500,000.
The council then discussed having full-coverage insurance on all city buildings, and since insurance bids are being put out now, they will ask for full cost bids to be available.

Where in the world did you come up with 400 to 500 thousand dollars to replace a building? You already have the concrete slab and all the plumbing there. you don’t have to buy the land again. You could build a three story brick home for that.
Who’s going to build it? The same people that charged 69,000.00 for a bathroom? Maybe you could rebuild it on the WC Whaley property. You would have more room.
I agree with Doc! Who in the world came up with that estimate? More money, more money, more money! Just another way to jack up expenses for the city and county…… Looking over all insurance coverages for all buildings based on THIS estimate is ridiculous. People, can we say Above Board anymore? Please!!!!
You can’t rebuild Sadie Johnson building for the amount of money you have and now the amount spent on the splash pad would have been a good amount. However, how did you think you could build a fire station for the same amount of money that you need for the building, when you do have the concrete slab, the plumbing and the ground. Let’s get real on how much a fire station would cost from the ground up plus a lot of concrete. I am very sorry that you can’t replace the convention center for the park. A lot of people enjoyed that which included in town, out of town, and all ages. Too bad, we didn’t plan for emergencies but keep on spending for recreation.
