City Council Considering Lake Monticello Bass Tournaments – Update on Fish Counts
March 30th, 2016 by Joe Burgess
At Tuesday night’s city council meeting there was a resolution to allow fishing tournaments to be held on Lake Monticello.
The council will table the resolution, bringing it back up at the next 2 meetings, to allow public input on the subject.
The Arkansas Game & Fish Commission spoke at a recent parks comittee meeting, on the topic.
MLive recently spoke to a source very familiar with the subject, who described the lake, since the city’s decision to allow bow-fishing to remove carp from the lake, as ..
“Carp population seems to be down, this year. Vegetation growth is too early to judge. Last fall, more bass were in Lake Monticello, than were there in recent years, especially smaller bass.Bream also seems to be increasing.”
Speaking of Lake Monticello, when is Hunger Run road to the lake going to be paved the rest of the way. Gravel areas are rough.
Is it wrong for the city or county to attempt to gain a benefit from the tournaments in the form of a dollar amount. If it is possible all proceeds should be designated to benefit the area in which the money is gathered (Lake Monticello) in the forms of maintenance and expansion of areas such as pavilions or so forth.
Just a thought to help the first post in improving the area around the lake and leading up to the lake.
