City Council Changes Policy for Multii-Unit Pick-ups & Dumpsters
April 19th, 2013 by Sarah Spencer and Joe BurgessThe City Council voted unanimously to pass an ordinance requiring that dumpster pads be installed in front of all dumpsters serviced by the City’s garbage and recycling collection trucks.
A dumpster pad is a concrete or other substantial substance used to pave the access area in front of a dumpster bin in order to support the weight of the vehicle used to empty the bins. This prevents excess wear and tear on the property that results from repeated dumping. Without a dumpster pad, the weight of the vehicle lifting the bins can cause the ground under the vehicle to sink and become rutted, increasing the likelihood of the vehicle becoming stuck. The construction of a pad in front of the dumpster would give the vehicle a solid surface to sustain the weight of lifting the bin, and prevent the vehicles from repeatedly becoming stuck while emptying bins.
Another change made will require multi-unit housing facilities (4 0r more units) and some commercial properties to use dumpsters, instead of multiple mini-dumpsters, due to time and difficulty of access. These will be based on the specific situation of each site.

And just who is going to pay for these dumpster pads? If the city wants them surely they are willing to fork out the money to pay for them, or is there another tax increase coming to cover that expense? If this happens inside the city limits the county will be doing it next so look out.
Will the city be furnishing these dumpster pads, or will the property owner be required to furnish them?
How much does a typical dumpster pad cost? Who will pay the cost?
What about your recycling? Most dumpsters are full of them. Majority of the weight is from them. Just saying.
As a citizen who always cries foul when taxes are raised I certainly hope my tax dollars are not spent on these dumpster pads. Nor should I pay more for my trash pick up if I am not using one. If these folks want to have dumpster service I suggest they pay the cost of the pad themselves.
Wait, who stores a dumpster on dirt and grass. I haven’t seen a dumpster in the city that isn’t stored on level asphalt or cement.
Hey can these new trash trucks weigh the cans as they pick them up? If so maybe we can charge by the pound for trash removal. That way everyone can pay for what they use.
everyone in my neighborhood puts the dumpster next to the street are they saying the street isnt strong enough to support the truck ? and just where is the pad supposed to go are we supposed to cut up the road and put in a concrete pad? i think not
