City Completes Sewer Infrastructure Project
February 6th, 2024 by Joe BurgessThe City of Monticello recently completed another much needed infrastructure project near Bowser Road.
The project replaced the Bowser Sewer lift station, which by all available information was nearly 50 years old. The old lift station was unable to accommodate the amount of sewage modern Monticello produces and often contributed to infrastructure related problems for residents in the area.
This pump station is a vital stage in pumping sewage to the West Sewer Treatment Plant from surrounding neighborhoods.
“Our critical infrastructure needs a tremendous amount of work but we are on the path to get it done. It’s a multi-faceted problem and requires staying focused and prioritizing our needs. A lot of our infrastructure was built when Monticello was much smaller and is now not able to perform as needed”.
A separate project to repair lift stations near Bankston Hall and Gibson on UAM are planned as well, as the Mayor has applied for a $500,000 grant for their repair. That grant is in the final stages of review and has already met the first two criteria in the approval process.
