City Approves Step 1 on Ditch Drainage Issues
February 27th, 2015 by Joe BurgessThe City Council approved Mayor Zack Tucker’s plan to begin reducing the city’s ongoing battle against residential flooding.
“Step 1” includes prioritizes drainage waterway. Godfrey Ditch and 10 Mile Creek are the “main storm water courses”. The city may now perform some maintenance on these creeks, such as regrading and improving water flow.
The smaller ditches will have to be kept up by their owners. “Minor storm water courses” are the medium-size courses that are direct tributaries to Godfrey and 10-mile Creeks, such as Western Pines Creek.
The city will also hire a professional hydrogologist, possibly covered by a grant, to study storm water flow and drainage. They will prepare a recommendation that will be presented to the council.
