At the City Council meeting, a representative of the Arkansas Municipal League explained the settlement that had been reached, that morning, in the pending litigation between the city of Monticello and Sheldon Thompson.
Thompson had filed a lawsuit against the city for injuries he received several years ago when he was tased by law-enforcement, and received injuries when he fell to the pavement on N. Cooper St.
The city has an insurance policy with the municipal league, and both parties agreed to pay Thompson $500,000, with the City paying for $50,000 (10% of the total amount) and League paying the balance.
