Cattlemen’s Association December Meeting Notes
January 5th, 2022 by Club OfficerThe Desha/Drew Cattlemen’s Association met for the regular monthly meeting December 16, 2021, at 7PM in the College of Forestry, Agriculture, and Natural Resources building on the UAM campus. President Jason Meier opened the meeting and welcomed the 35 members and guests. After enjoying the delicious finger foods provided by the members, President Meier introduced Richard Longoria, a Beef Cattle Sales Representative of Boehinger Ingelheim. Mr. Longoria volunteered to come and speak to us about vaccines at a later meeting.
Scott Hayes, Drew County Extension Agent, reminded the group that if their pesticide permit was expiring, they can call the office for information about how to renew it. Also, call the office for more information about the Grass to Grid Program. There will be a meeting about the program January 4th so call soon.
Thane Cope, owner of McKiever’s Wholesale and Retail Meats and one of our members was our next speaker. They sell all sorts of meat including a whole beef or ½ beef, a single steak or any cut of beef. The can also process your beef. Mr. Cope welcomes you to come by and they will be happy to accommodate you.
Next on the agenda was election of officers for the new year. After some discussion, a slate of candidates was listed and unanimously approved. Our new officers are: President-Brett Kendig, Vice-President-Nita Carpenter, Secretary/Treasurer-Kathy Ferguson, and State Board Representative-Brian Gibson.
The next meeting will be the third Thursday of January which is January 20th.
