Wrecks & Rain

Heavy rain fell across Drew County, Sunday morning, causing several roads to be underwater, in places; sending at least three vehicles into crashes, especially around 11 am.

On Old Dermott Road, a Toyota was traveling toward HWY 35, hydroplaned after hitting some water over the roadway, then struck a tree and rolled over.

The driver was transported to DMH by SEEMS.

The Fire & rescue Team and Sheriff’s Dept. responded to the call.

Another vehicle was invoplved in a  single vehicle acciden, east of the Pine Hill / HWy 293 intersection, MASI and DCSO worked that accident.

Yet another vehicle, this time a Lincoln, ran off of HWY 425, near lacey, crossing into the trees, next to the highway.  DCSO also responded to that accident.

Finally, a tree was reported to have fallen across HWY 35 West, near Rock Springs, blocking both lanes of the highway.

Wreck at 278 / 425 Sends Drivers to DMH

Around 8 am, Tuesday morning, the driver of a westbound Dodge pick-up was attempting to turn south onto HWY 425 at the 278 / 425 intersection, when the collided with an eastbound Mazda SUV.

Both vehicles had a green light, but there was not arrow to designate turns.

Both drivers were transported to Drew Memorial, by SEEMS and MASI.

Reliable Towing and Rod’s Wrecker cleared the roadway.

MPD worked the crash scene.

Fire Hydrant, Stop Sign, & Street Sign Damaged by Envoy (Gas Line Came Close)

Tuesday, around 12 noon, a westbound GMC Envoy on Scott Street dropped off the edge of the pavement, and wasn;t able to re-rain control, before they collided with a street sign, a stop sign, and a fire hydrant.

Modern fire hydrants have a built in “break away” to prevent major leaks, when they are struck by vehicles.

A gas line barely escaped being damaged in the mishap.

Around 11 am Tuesday, as most of Drew County was getting pelted by ice pellets, several ice related accidents occurred.

On HWY 278 East, just before Dead Man’s Curve, a maroon Chevy pick-up was off in the ditch.

Just past the curve, near Bordeaux Road, a gold sedan had lost control in the ice, and came to a stop in a nearby bean field.

Just past the next gradual curve, were 3 vehicles, all involved or partially involved,  in another mishap .

It started as a gray, westbound Mitsubishi lost control in the ice.  The driver avoided colliding with an eastbound Chevy pick up, but the Chevy truck  swerved and ended up in the ditch.

The Mitsubishi then struck an oncoming, white Volkswagen Jetta, which was being driven by the wife of the Chevy driver. sending both vehicles spinning into the ditch area.

Drew County Sheriff’s deputies worked the accident(s).  No one was reportedly injured, however an ambulance resonded to check out one of the drivers.

Ice Causes Rollover on Overpass – 1st Wreck of Many, Tuesday

Around 10am, Tuesday morning, a UAM student was traveling back to class, westbound on Jordan Drive, when he felt his Jeep loose traction in the ice, “fishtail”, and then rollover on the bridge.

The driver was not injured.  Monticello Police worked scene, assisted by Arkansas State Police. The Fire & Rescue Squad was also paged out.  Dan’s wrecker towed the vehicle.

More Rain Forecast, More Wrecks Possible, Due to Hydroplaning

Around 8:30, Wednesday night, the driver of this eastbound Dodge Dakota lost control of her vehicle in the rain, near Dead Man’s Curve, on HWY 278 East. 

Arkansas State Troopers worked the accident, assisted by the Drew County Sheriff’s Dept.

SEEMS transported the victim to Drew Memorial. Rod’s Wrecker removed the Dakota.

With another 100% chance of rain, today, be aware that hydroplaning can easily occur.

Single Car Crash Victim Air Evac-ed to PB

Around 9:30, Thursday morning, the driver of a northbound Toyota Camry was traveling from Ashley County toward Monticello, near HWY 172, when he lost control of his vehicle.

The Toyota crossed into the west ditch and slammed into a driveway culvert, before becoming airborne.

The driver was transported by SEEMS to the DMH helipad, where he was transferred to Air Evac, to med-flight to Pine Bluff’s JRMC.

First Responder’s Christmas Day

While everyone else was celebrating Christmas day, our local First Responders were at work, serving the community, like they do every other day of the year.

Lacey – Ladelle Fire Dept. put out a fire at a work shed behind a HWY 425 home, Christmas Day.

MPD dispatched a Drew County Sheriff’s Deputy to a truck accident, Christmas Day. No one was reportedly injured.

C&L Electric crews worked to restore power on Valley Junction Road, after a tree fell, bringing down a power line.

Injured Driver Airlifted to LR

Around 8:30, Saturday, Drew County Sheriff’s Deputies and the Monticello Rescue Squad were dispatched to the report of a single vehicle wreck, where the driver was pinned inside of his Dodge pick-up, after striking a large tree.

Life Imitates TV – Squirrel Causes Wreck

An 18 year old male was traveling towards Monticello around 10 am, Wednesday, on Winchester Road, near the new Pine Hill Store. 

As he came around a curve, he swerved to avoid hitting a squirrel in the road, causing him to lose control of his Toyota Camry, which rolled and flipped across the ditch, striking the line of trees, and coming to rest upside down in the ditch.

The Day After the Temporary Tags Expired……

Friday, around noon, this driver of the Olds Alero was traveling on Old Warren Road, heading toward Monticello, when he lost control.  The vehicle ran off of the roadway, and into a line of trees, knocking several trees over.

Drew County Sheriff’s Deputies worked the wreck.  Reliable Towing removed the wrecked Olds.

The driver was cited for driving on a suspended license.

The temporary tags on the Alero ran out the day before the crash.

Roll-Over Wrecks Keep Rescue Team Rolling over Recent Days

Yesterday, around 4:30, Monticello Fire & Rescue team was paged out to the report of a Mercedes SUV that had flipped on HWY 35, near Lake Monticello. 

The vehicle was eastbound, lost control, and flipped, before coming to a stop with the driver pinned inside.  A firefighter arriving on the scene helped her get out of the vehicle, as others were arriving.  MASI transported the Little Rock lady to DMH, DCSAO worked the crash site.  Dan’s Towing removed the Mercedes.

Sunday morning, Fire & Rescue were called to Davis Street, where a man was backing out of his driveway, when he missed the road, and backed over a large culvert, rolling his car over into a ditch, pinning him inside of his Hyundai.

He was safely removed from his  car.  MPD worked the wreck scene, C&L removed the car from it’s perched position.

Friday Midnight Wreck at “The River” – Fleeing Driver Turns Himself In Saturday

The driver of this Ford LTD-Crown Victoria reportedly pulled out of The River on HWY 278, around midnight, Friday night, into the path of the Windstar van, which was traveling east.

The driver of the van was not injured.  The driver of the Crown Vic fled the scene on foot.  He did reconsider his hecision, and turned himself in to police Saturday.  He was charged with leaving the scene of an accident and no proof of insurance.

MPD and DCSO worked the accident. Reliable Towing andRods’s Wrecker removed the vehicles.

Log Truck Jack-Knifes on HWY 83 North – Edited

Around 5 pm, Thursday, Drew County Sheriff’s Deputies were called to HWY 83 North, where both lanes were blocked by a Freightliner log truck that was jack-knifed, jut north of Rabb Road.

The driver told MLive that as he came around the curve (northbound), he saw a tractor, and hit the breaks, which caused the empty log truck to begin to skid, causing the wreck.

No one was inured, Reliable Towing towed the big rig from the wreck scene.

Over the Creek, & Through the Woods……..

The driver of this Saab convertible had a scary ride this morning, around 10:30, when she lost control of her vehicle on HWY 425, north of Lacey, as she was traveling north.

The Saab crossed the ditch, and struck a tree, as it crossed over a creek.

The car came to rest with it’s front wheels and back wheels on different side of he creek.

No one was injured.  Arkanss State Police worked the accident’ C&L Wrecker towed the convertible.

 

Monte Carlo Collides With Tanker Truck

The driver of this Chevy Monte Carlo was southbound, Thursday around 11:45, when the vehicle hydroplaned, spinning around, and crossing into the northbound lane.

As the car entered the northbound land, the passenger side collided with the tanker truck, shown here.

The accident occurred on HWY 425 North, near Cablevision. No one was injured. MPD and MFD responded,  Rod’s Wrecker towed the Chevy.

Tuesday Wrecks

There were 2 different wrecks Tuesday night, both sending vehicles into the nearby wooded areas.

Around 9 pm, an Infinity lost control on Firing Range Road, near Price Lumber.  The driver fled the scene, but a cold beverage was reportedly seen rolling around the floorboard, as the vehicle was removed from the scene.  DCSO worked the scene, Reliable Towing pulled the vehicle out of the trees.

Around 10 pm DCSO, along with the Fire and Rescue Squad, responded the report of a Ford 4-door pick-up that had rolledover on Old Warren Road.  The 2 pasengers were extricated from the truck, and transported to Drew Memorial Hospital by MASI.

Fatal Wreck Claims Life of Local Man

Michael Keith Williams age 43 of Warren, was killed Saturday, as the result of an automobile accident in Bradley County. According to Arkansas State Police, early Sunday morning, Williams was driving his Chevy pick-up west on Bradley County Road 34, when the truck left the roadway, struck a tree, and overturned.  There were two other passengers in the vehicle. 

Williams was an electric technician for J. P. Price Lumber Company.

Frasers Funeral Home is in charge of the funeral services.

 

Friday Wreck Sends 2 to Hospital

Around 3 pm, Friday afternoon, a Mercury Grand Marquis and a Jeep Cherokee were involved in a severe automobile crash on HWY 425 North, at Rose Hill Cut-Off.

Two occupants of the Jeep were transported to DMH by MASI.

The Drew County Sheriff’s Dept. worked the scene and traffic, which was cut down to 2 lanes.

Reliable Wrecker and Dan’s Towing removed the vehicles.

No One Injured in Roll-Over Wreck

Thursday, just before noon, the driver of this Chevy truck lost control of the vehicle, on HWY 35 West.

The vehicle struck a mailbox, before rolling onto it’s roof.

Neither the driver or the passenger were injured in the accident.

Arkansas State Police, Drew County Sheriff’s Deputies, and MASI responded.

Early Morning Crash Send Driver to UAMS

Monticello Fire & Rescue was paged out to extricate the driver of this westbound Chevy pick-up out of the vehicle, around 5:30, Monday morning.

Marks at the scene show the vehicle left the roadway on the north side of the highway, crossed the ditch, and collided with a concrete embankment, near the I-530 intersection.

Drew County Sheriff;s deputies worked the crash, Affordable Wrecker towed the Chevy, and MASI transported the driver to DMH, where he was then helicoptered to UAMS in Little Rock

“Mulligan on the 9th Hole”

In the game of golf, a “do over” on the tee shot is often called a “mulligan”.

Around 8 am, Tuesday morning, the driver of this Volkswagen certainly needed a “do over” as the vehicle lost control as it topped Country Club Hill, crashed through a fence, narrowly missing a power pole, before flipping, and finally coming to rest between a group of trees (on the sidewalk near the 9th hole of the golf course). 

According to reports, the driver was not injured.

A neighbor told MLive, in 17 years living nearby, she has seen 8 major wrecks near that hill and intersectin.

MPD and DCSO worked the accident,  C&L Wrecker towed the VW.

 

Fertilize Truck Overturns on Florence Road, Rescue, EMTs, Police Respond – Update

The driver of a Bayou Grain 18-wheeler fertilize delivery truck apparently took a curve on Florence Road too fast, around 10 o’clock, Tuesday morning, resulting in a hopper trailer of farm fertilize being dumped into a road ditch.

The driver was extricated from the crushed cab of the vehicle by the Fire & Rescue Team, and them transported to the JRMC trauma center.  Someone at the scene said his injuries didn’t appear to be life threatening.

A “bobcat” was cleaning up the spilled product, as evening was approaching, along with several individuals with buckets, collecting fertilize for their personal use.  Contact Ronnie Adcock at 723-2260 for info.

 

3 Vehicle Crash at 425/278, Saturday

Tuesday, January 17th, 2012

No one was seriously injured, around 3:45 Saturday, in a 3 vehicle collision at the HWY 425/278 intersection.

A Ford pick-up reportedly ran a red-light, and was struck in the driver’s door by a Pontiac Grand Prix.  Another vehicle was also struck, receiving less damage than the Ford and Pontiac.

Monticello Police and an Arkansas State Trooper responded to work the traffic and accident.
