MPD is investigating reports filed Sunday morning of several cars being entered into unlawfully in the South Hyatt Street area. It appears that the vehicles were pilfered through Saturday night/ early Sunday morning.
Anyone with any information concerning these incidents are encouraged to contact the police department.
MPD’s Crime Tip Line, 870-723-LEAD, offers cash rewards for information that leads to the identification and/ or arrest of the suspects and callers can remain anonymous.
Monticello Police Chief Jason Akers again encourages citizens to simply remove valuables, such as guns and cash and to lock their vehicles at night and roll up vehicle windows.
According to County Judge Robert Akin, a threat was received earlier this week over social media, which is believed to have been sent from outside of Drew County, threatening a violent act, during the Friday morning protest for “Justice for Marquis Martin,” which is scheduled to begin at 9 AM, Friday morning.
MLive will be at the courthouse during the protest and will post reports throughout the day, while it continues.
