The Monticello School Board met for their regular monthly meeting on Monday.
A number of reports were reviewed and approved, including the Accident Prevention and Safety Plan, the District Crisis Plan, Emergency Action Plan and Continuity of Operations Plan.The Board also approved the district’s Workmen’s Compensation Plan for 2014-2015.
Needed roof and gutter repairs at the OEC building were discussed at Tuesday night’s Monticello school board meeting.
Program director Randy Lay also explain the need for additional classrooms for the program, and answered the boards questions about likely growth in the vocational field of education.
The life-threatening incident at Watson Chapel, where 4 nurses out of the Monticello bleachers saved a junior high football player at the WC scrimmage game, has drawing attention to the possibility of similar incidents occurring.
At Tuesday night’s at Monticello school board meeting, the board discussed their “emergency action plan for athletics,” which covers all sports included in the district athletic program.
The Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) announces Amber Hairston, a Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS) teacher at Monticello High School in Monticello, Arkansas, as the 2014 ACTE Region IV New Teacher of the Year. The ACTE New Teacher of the Year award recognizes CTE teachers with 3-5 years’ experience (at the secondary or postsecondary level) who have made significant contributions toward innovative and unique career and technical education programs and shown a professional commitment early in their careers. Monticello School today announces its policy for providing free and reduced price meals for children served under the National School Lunch Program, After school Snack Program, and/or School Breakfast Program. The central office has a copy of the policy, which may be reviewed by any interested party. The price charged for a paid student breakfast is $0.75 Pre-K-12th the price charged for a paid student lunch is $1.50 Pre-K-5th, and $1.75 6th-12th
Monticello Occupational Education Center (OEC) students traveled to Hot Springs April 14 – 16 to participate in the Arkansas SkillsUSA competition. SkillsUSA is a national organization for students preparing for technical, skilled and service occupations in high schools and colleges/technical schools. The event is held annually and is hosted by Arkansas industries and the Arkansas SkillsUSA Organization.
A decision has been reached in dealing with the Monticello High School students involved in Wednesday night’s student pranks, which bordered on vandalism.
Monticello HS Concert Choir earned Superior 1st Division ratings at the Arkansas Choral Directors State Choral Performance Assessment – CPA Thursday, April 10 at UCA in Conway. These ratings, combined with their 1st division ratings at the region CPA in March, gives MHS Choir the Sweepstakes Award for the second consecutive year. “This has been a remarkable year of achievements for our students. I am thankful and extremely proud of the dedication, discipline and arduous spirit they have displayed on a daily basis,” says MHS choral director, Bennie Vincent.

Monticello Tree Board members Hope Bragg and Lee Williams greeted more than 500 students and teachers from the Monticello Elementary School K-2 classes who had gathered in the school cafeteria to celebrate Arbor Day.

Recently, 11 MHS forensics team members competed at the Cabot Classic Forensics Tournament where there were approximately 1,000 total entries.
Becca Stephenson advanced to finals and earned 3rd Place in Prose Interpretation. Salonica Hunter earned a finalist medal in Storytelling. Stephenson also advanced to semi-finals in Poetry Interpretation.
Monticello FCCLA members, Hannah Kling and Kimberly Long, presented “Stranger Danger” to five different classes at Monticello Elementary school on October 30, 2013. They taught the children safety tips for trick-or-treating, created an ID card complete with finger prints, read a book, and presented them with goody bags filled with candy and information for their parents.
The Monticello School District will be taking sealed bids on an HP ProCurve MSM760 Wireless Controller and 23 HP ProCurve MSM410 Wireless Access Points.
Bids must be received by 10:00am Tuesday November 12, 2013 and will be opened on Tuesday November 12, 2013 @ 11:00am.
Friday, October 18th was declared ‘Go Pink Day’ at Monticello Pre-K. The staff and students wore Pink to honor a Pre-K Staff member, Mrs. Pam Dunlap, who is a cancer survivor. The students and staff members cheered Mrs. Dunlap on as she prepared to walk in Little Rock at the annual Race for the Cure. Mrs. Dunlap was presented with flowers, balloons, caps and a pink tote bag filled with an assortment of pink gifts. In her honor the Pre-K staff members were also presented with pink tote bags.
The meeting was called to order with three members present. Tammy Stain reported on the 2013-2014 budget. She reviewed last year’s actual vs. this year’s budget.
Today is the day Arkansas students face the dreaded First Day of School. It’s also the day parents and other drivers face the First Day of School Traffic.
Remember to use caution, especially in the school and residential areas of Monticello.
