Two single-engine planes collided in midair Thursday afternoon during firefighting activities in southeastern Nevada.
That crash took the life of Blake Haynes, a 62-year-old pilot, born and raised in Monticello, who had flown all types of aircraft for over 40 years, ranging from crop-dusters to Lear Jets.
His parents, Bill and Mary Jo Haynes, still reside in Monticello.
Here is more information about the fire, as it was reported by FoxNews.com.
At last month’s City Council meeting, the most discussed topic was the proposed burning ordinance, specifically of leaves and debris.
Issues discussed included how permits must be
obtained from the fire department before any burning can take place.
The photo was taken Thursday morning, as a man was apparently burning down what was left of a former residence.
Around 315, Tuesday, Monticello firefighters were paged to a woods fire, near the intersection of Midway Route and Wilson Mill Road.
No report was available at the time of the fire about how it started.
Firefighters were sent to area homes on Wilson Mill Road, to protect them, during the early stages of the blaze, as the fire line was moving to the south.
It is believed that aside from timberland, no other damage was done.
The Rural Fire Program, managed by the Arkansas Agriculture Department’s Forestry Commission (AFC), received $237,000 from the United States Forest Service to purchase and distribute 79 Wildfire Suppression Kits to statewide volunteer fire departments in 2019. (more…)
