2 Challengers Win County JP Seats

2 incumbent Quorum Court members lost their positions on the county’s governing board, Tuesday when Steve Piggot and Donna Harton Usry defeated Tommy Gray and Chris Barnett for their seats, in districts 5 & 6.

2 changes were decided, Tuesday night, on the Monticello City Council.

Clarrissa Pace defeated Joe Meeks, in his bid for reelection, representing Ward 3.

Mark Tiner defeated John Carter, to take the position of Jack Lassiter, who did not seek reelection in Ward 4.

BenGilmoreToday, Republican Ben Gilmore received an endorsement from Governor Asa Hutchinson in his bid for State Senate District 26, which includes Ashley, Bradley, Chicot, Drew, and portions of Cleveland, Desha, and Lincoln Counties.

“Ben has the experience to lead and is committed to southeast Arkansas,” said Governor Hutchinson. “He understands state government, the issues facing our state, and I know he will represent the people of District 26 well.”

Gilmore issued the following statement:
“I thank the Governor for his support of my campaign. As your State Senator, I will work to lower taxes, grow jobs, defend life, uphold the Second Amendment, and protect religious liberty.” (more…)

County Clerk Lyna Gulledge, Resigning effective December 31, Moving to North Arkansas – Video

Lyna GulledgeMrs. Gulledge has served 16 years as County Clerk, after working as a deputy clerk, in 2004.

She also told the Quorum Court JPs, Monday night, that two of her deputy clerks, who have been considering retirement, will also be leaving, at the end of the year.

Several of the JP ‘s, the County Judge, as well as the county attorney, expressed their appreciation to Mrs. Gullege, for her years of service.

A standing round of applause, concluded the emotional announcement.

Clarissa Pace Announces as Candidate for City Council, Ward 3, Seat 2

Clarissa Pace Clarissa Pace has recently announced her candidacy for the position of Alderman on the Monticello City Council.

When asked “why you are running for city council now?”, she responded:

“I have been a participating member in this community since I moved here. It has been with sports, education, politics, spiritual, you name it. I was instrumental in moving our Monticello school board to observe MLK Day in the school system, I helped revive the Neighborhood Watch program in my community which helped shed light on doing something about abandon homes in Monticello neighborhoods, inspired our former mayor to put up speed bumps to eliminate neighborhood speeding, and actively bring back the noise ordinance and curfew.
