Drew Central fourth graders had a special guest reader, Arkansas House of Representative for District 9, LeAnne Burch.  She read the New York Times Best Seller “Grace for President” by Kelly DiPucchio.

This book gave the fourth graders a fun introduction to the American electoral system but also taught them the value of hard work, courage, and independent thought- and offered an inspiring example of how to choose our leaders.

Drew Central fourth grade chess team held it’s end of the year tournament.  The students learned to play chess the second semester of school.

Drew Central Fourth Graders held the annual Arkansas Words Spelling Bee during a study of Arkansas history.  Students had two weeks to study the words before the spelling bee.

Drew Central fourth grade students learned that their are many challenges when reading a technical schematic diagram.  Students working with a partner were given the task to build a toy Bionicle.  None of the Bionicles were the same.  Students were required to build the toy Bionicle following a step process and were not given a picture of what was being built.  This project gave students the opportunity to practice critical thinking, team building, and perseverance skills.

Drew Central Elementary has been recognized by the Office for Education Policy at the University of Arkansas as a school where students demonstrated high growth on the ACT Aspire! (more…)

Members of Drew Central Gearheads Robotics team won the coveted Excellence Award at State last Saturday.  They are now qualified for Nationals and Worlds!  Way to go DC Gearheads.
