The City of Monticello received notification this week of the State Street Aid Committee’s approval of the Mayor’s request of the repair and paving of North Hyatt Street. North Hyatt services multiple subdivisions and neighborhoods, churches, Oakland Cemetery and locally owned businesses. (more…)

The City of Monticello, the Monticello Transfer Station and the Monticello Senior Citizen’s Center will be closed Friday, December 22nd through Tuesday, December 26th in observance of Christmas and Monday, January 1st in observance of New Years.

Friday’s, December 22nd trash route will be picked up Wednesday, December 20th.

Monday’s and Tuesday’s, December 25th and 26th trash routes will be picked up on Wednesday, December 27th.

Monday’s, January 1st trash route will be picked up on Wednesday, January 3rd.

This schedule is for city trash customers only.

According to Monticello Mayor Jason Akers, the City of Monticello received notification last week from the Arkansas Department of Transportation that the Lakewood Trail, located at Lake Monticello received $414,000 in funding for the next phase of construction to the trail.

The City of Monticello received its new front loading trash truck after a long delay due to high demand and production backlog.

The cost of the truck was $362,000. By having the capability to purchase the truck outright using proceeds from the One Cent Sales tax passed by voters, the City saved roughly $30,000 in loan interest and fees over the course of the trucks service. (more…)

One of the most confusing areas of Monticello Traffic, aside from the town Square, is E. Gaines St.

When you leave the Square, on E. Gaines St., it is one-lane traffic, with parking spaces on both sides of the street.

When it crosses, Gabbert Street, at the chamber of commerce, THEN it becomes a two-lane highway, without parking places.

The City of Monticello wants to remind residents that the Conrad Street Water Tower repairs and improvements are still underway and on schedule.

Residents near the tower may see water misting from the tower where it is being pressure washed and crews scaling the exterior of the structure. Access to Conrad Street is limited during the project. (more…)
