Monticello Mayor Paige Chase has announced that she is not seeking reelection to that position.

She told MLive, “It is with gratefulness that I tell you I will not run for another term as Mayor. I would not leave this office without making sure it was in good hands.

Monticello Public Ordinance 768 states that private dumpsters cannot be used unless the person dumping trash into the private dumpster has permission to do so from the owner of the dumpster. A fine for doing so may be issued.

Tanglewood area city water is off, due to a water main leak.

Crews are working on it, now, but don’t know how long the repair will take.

Although clearly marked, many drivers, especially out-of-town big-rigs, travel east from the wrong lane, on Gaines Street at the Square.

Judge Akin said that if this is to take place, it will depend totally on federal prisoners.

Akin added it will not be run by LaSalle, they would only be consultants. The new jail will be supervised by the Drew County Sherriff.

Expectations could include 100+ employees,
$1.6 million county profit during the first 3-5 year contract,
300 federal prisoners
200 state prisoners
100 local prisoners.

According to Sheriff Mark Gober, his office was notified Thursday morning about a home invasion and assault that occurred around 9:30 PM,  Wednesday  night. (more…)
