The city council of Monticello will be considering a “food truck“ ordinance at tonight‘s meeting.
We are planning to post the video of the meeting on MonticelloLive, Wednesday morning.
The intent is not to ban food trucks, but to “level the playing field” and ensure quality and safety for local customers and businesses.
“First, let me be clear in saying that I support mobile vendors. I think they bring variety, culture, convenience and many other positive aspects. Our local vendors (in my experience) are all great people providing a service to our communities. We want to encourage that, but also set guidelines for operating in the City of Monticello. This will allow vendors and property owners as well as City or State entities responsible for the safety of our public, to know the rules as to when, where and how food trucks operate. (more…)
As part of Monticello’s City Wide Clean Up Weekend, City Police, Fire, Public Works, Parks, Administrative Staff, MEDC as well as local churches and the local NAACP Chapter picked up over 1500 pounds of trash and and litter inside the city.
The Church of Christ, Emmanual Baptist, Morningstar Baptist, the United Methodist Church, The Revival Center and NAACP Chapter 6042 for their hard work on Saturday as well. Many others assisted as well.
Supplies for the cleanup were provided by Keep Arkansas Beautiful. Mr. Kelly Koonce helped organize the event.
On behalf of the City, a big thank you to everyone who came out and put in work to show how much they care for their community!
The City of Monticello will be conducting a city wide clean up effort this week, starting on Friday with city workers cleaning up and Saturday, with several local churches and civic organizations participating. Trash bags, vests, signs and related supplies for the clean up are being provided by Keep Arkansas Beautiful and being distributed by the Mayors Office should anyone want to come out and help either day. Keep Arkansas Beautiful visited Monticello and Drew Central Elementary Schools last week and brought Otto the Otter to visit with kids, hand out coloring books and talk to them about keeping Monticello clean.
Mayor Akers is encouraging a city wide clean up on March 24th and 25th. On the 24th, city employees will pick up litter and trash in town and any institution wanting to help on Saturday the 25th can contact City Hall to arrange a time to obtain clean up materials furnished by Keep Arkansas Beautiful.
So far, several Churches have volunteered to help on the 25th, including Morning Star Missionary Baptist, Church of Christ, The Revival Center and Immanuel Baptist.
Friday morning, around 9:15, the train track sensors mistakenly picked up on a rock or other debris near theHighway 425 train crossing, setting off the flashing red lights.
This, in turn, caused the northbound highway traffic control lights to change to constant red, causing a major traffic jam, reaching a quarter-mile to the south.
MPD directed traffic, until city workers brought a four-way stop sign,
Arkansas Midland was notified, and fixed the railroad sensor.
