The Monticello Police Department, along with Walmart, Revival Center, and DHS, sponsored 53 children, this year for “shop with a cop”. Special thanks to pastor Michael Jones, JoAnn Trotter, Walmart staff and all the officers who participated.

This was a very rewarding experience for all involved, both children and adults.

The Salvatoim Army collected $12,792.76 in donations to their Bell Ringers at Walmart, on weekends between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

They would like to thank everyone for their contributions, and extend their appreciation to the bell ringers for donating their service to th4e community.

Students from Discovery Children’s Center visited the Couthouse and  Town Square, Wednesday, singing Christmas Carols. The annual field trip has been a highlight for 3, 4, and 5 year olds for several years.

During Saturday morning’s “Shop with a Cop” sponsored by Walmart, Monticello Police officers took 23 children and teenagers shopping at Walmart, with $100 to spend on each one of them.

The officer that was with one 10 year old boy asked him,  “Where do you want to start.”  Most kids would answer toys or games, but this child’s reply was, “I want to buy my Mommy something for Christmas.”  He wanted to buy her jewelry, so they went to that department and picked out a ring for her.

Next the officer asked him, “What do you want to get now.”  His reply was, “I want to buy me something to wear for Christmas,” so off the clothes they went.
