Car on 425 South Hit by Stray Bullet
December 9th, 2015 by Joe BurgessAround 1:15, Monday afternoon a vehicle on Highway 425 S. was struck by a bullet, as it was traveling south, south of the overpass.
Monticello Police responded to the scene, and determined that the shot was likely fired from across the city limit boundary.
Drew County Sheriffs deputies responded to the area, finding a long time Drew County resident, who had been sighting in his rifle.
The man said he had been doing target practice in that area for many years, without incident or complaint.
The man offered to pay for any damage done, and agreed not to shoot in that direction in the future.
No one was injured, and no charges were filed.

This is the reason it scares me to live in this area. Guns exist for people who like to kill. Enough said.

This man had no intention of hurting anyone. It was an accident and this man was man enough to agree to pay for damages and never shoot that way again. Cut him some slack.
One should use common sense when using a gun. Pointing a gun toward a well traveled road may seem okay, but it only takes one bullet to travel in the wrong direction, especially if it ricochets.
