California Man Gets 35 Years for Local Home Invasion
October 6th, 2016 by iPhoneA 29 year old man, who recently moved here from California, received a 35 year prison sentence from a Drew County jury, Tuesday.
Willie D. Payne’s California criminal history shows him being in prison from 2006–2013, for crimes ranging from drugs, gang activities, and two possessions of an assault rifle.
Tuesday, Payne was convicted for the May, 2016 armed home invasion of a Monticello man.
Willie Payne was found guilty of aggravated residential burglary, aggravated robbery, and being a felon in possession of a firearm, and sentenced to serve 35 years in prison, 25 years, and 12 years, respectively.
Payne will serve 70% on Ag. Robbery charge of 35 years (with parole eligible in 24.5 years).
The jury recommended the other sentences run concurrent with this.
Judge Bynum Gibson will formally decide if Payne’s charges will run consecutively or concurrently, at an upcoming hearing, on other criminal charges.
