Calhoun Named Regional Library Director
November 29th, 2012 by SubmittedJudy Calhoun was recently named Director of the Southeast Arkansas Regional Library. Ms. Calhoun began her library career in Star City, where she was the Branch Manager for 14 years.
During her tenure there, she developed and maintained reading programs for children and adults and actively worked with the Lincoln County Literacy Council. After three millage campaigns, Ms. Calhoun was able to raise the county library millage to 1 mil. She was instrumental in promoting a tax election which paid for a new 5,000 square foot building and was successful in raising an additional $75,000 for the furnishing of the new building. In her time at Star City, Ms. Calhoun was known for her service to her patrons and her constant desire to improve herself and the services of her branch.
In 2007, Ms. Calhoun graduated from Florida State University with a Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science and in 2008 became the Assistant Director of Southeast Arkansas Regional Library. She actively participates and presents workshops and regional events where she demonstrates her motivational and interpersonal skills. In April, Ms. Calhoun was one of four library staff from Arkansas selected to attend the National Project Compass Conference in Washington, D. C.
The Southeast Arkansas Regional Library serves the population of Bradley, Chicot, Desha, Drew, and Lincoln counties. The Regional Library consists of 13 branches and provides a full range of services to its patrons, including: computer use, copier and fax services, internet access, reading programs, library classes, story times, and access to meeting rooms.
The Southeast Arkansas Regional Headquarters is located in Monticello and shares a building with the Monticello Branch Library which is the process of building a new 20,000 square foot building.
