5 Die, 5 Injured in Bus / Big Rig Crash, near Dermott, Monday Afternoon

The Arkansas State Police have confirmed five fatalities from a Monday afternoon collision at Halley Junction, better known as the intersection of Highway 65 and Highway 35, near Dermott, at 2:45 pm.
Police report that the crash occurred when a southbound Freightliner tractor-trailer collided with a westbound Ford van (reportedly a CB King school van) that failed to yield at the intersection.
All five of the deceased were passengers in the van. They include Tommy Figures, 50, Brayshawn Ransom, 19, Jerry King, 56, Regina Jackson, 65, all of Dermott, and Geraldine Prewitt, 73, of McGehee.
Three other van passengers were injured, as well as the drivers of both vehicles.
Due to the number of victims, first responders and ambulances from several nearby cities and counties responded to the scene.
