Burns to Child Earns $50,000 Bond for 23 Year Old Mom
March 26th, 2015 by Joe BurgessTuesday, a local mother of 2 had a bond set for her of $50,000, following her arrest on a warrant for deep burn scalding injuries to her one year old son.
It was reported to Arkansas State Police Crimes Against Children unit that on March 7 Lakeisha Martin took her one-year-old child to Drew Memorial Hospital with severe burns to both legs,
The child was then airlifted to Arkansas Children’s Hospital.
Documentation in the case indicates that Martin claims the scalding was accidental. She told authorities that the child was in bath tub, when another child turned on hot water. She says that when she heard the scream, she ran back into the room where they were.
The doctors report says this is inconsistent with the child’s injuries.
A drug test was also performed on the child’s hair, which came back positive for drug use. A potential reason for this result could be that the hair absorbed the chemicals from the air in the room which he was being kept, similar to “second-hand smoke.”
Judge Sara Hartness set Martin’s bond at $50,000 (commercial only), as she likely faces endangering welfare of minor charges.
Martin’s other child is now in DHS custody.
