Burlington Water Tower Repair – $500,000 – Edited
July 22nd, 2013 by Sarah SpencerThe City Council called a special meeting, recently, to discuss water tank repairs on the Burlington Tank on HWY 278 East.
The Burlington water tower’s repair issues have been an ongoing source of concern for the City of Monticello. Recently Mayor Maxwell contacted Utility Service Co. Inc. about repair and maintenance of the tower. An employee of Utility Service Co. was present at the Council meeting and discussed services the company can offer the City of Monticello.
USC offered a maintenance contract to the City which would spread the half-million dollar project over a five-year period. The city would enter into a one-year contract, and each year would have the option of renewing the contract or paying off the outstanding balance. The contract would include complete repair and renovation of the Burlington water tower before the end of the year, followed by regular inspections and maintenance, for the sum of $9,106 a month. The contract would take effect on the day it is signed, but payment would not be due until after all the repairs have been made. If the City decides to enter into a contract with USC, the work would probably commence in late September or October, and take about two months to complete. The contract will be put on the agenda for a vote at the next Council meeting.
