The Monticello Fire responded to what quickly became a major fire at the old Burlington Mill, on Jackson Street,
The building had most recently operated as Monticello Recycling.
It was reported that the original “Cotton Mill” was constructed during the 1930s.
The next portion of the building was added during the late 1940s – early 1950s.
The next section was completed during the 1970s, and included the office portion of the structure.
Other departments that responded included the Monticello Police Department, Warren, Dermott, Collins-Cominto, Lacey-Ladelle, Tillar & Winchester Fire Depts.
The Drew County sheriffs department also helped with traffic control throughout the day.
The Arkansas Forestry Commission brought a dozer, to help prevent the fire from spreading into the wooded area near the homes on Highway 278 E.
Our sincere appreciation goes out to all of the firefighters from all departments, for their help in protecting our community.
