Burglar Falls Asleep in Business
October 17th, 2014 by iPhoneFriday morning around 9 am, Monticello Police were dispatched to a commercial burglary in progress at the Stone Fox hair salon on Bochardt St.
An employee came into the business to open up for the day and saw the suspect laying on a couch in the rear of the shop.
The employee called the police department and officers responded. Detective Kenny Cox was approx. a block away when the call came in and was the first officer on scene. He went into the business and heard a door slam shut. Cox went to the area of the noise and saw a male subject run out the side door.
A foot chase of the suspect was ended when Cox and Officer Shannon Cotton caught the subject on Bochardt St.
The suspect is Joshua Tompkins age 22 of Monticello is currently being held at the Drew County Detention Center awaiting a first appearance.
Tompkins was out on bond for Breaking and Entering and Theft in Monticello earlier this year. Entrance was made by breaking a window in the rear of the business.
