Boys and Girls Club Summer Program, Enrollment Still Available
June 10th, 2013 by SubmittedThe Boys and Girls Club of Drew County will host a summer program for youths in Monticello and Drew County. The program started Monday, June 3rd and will run through August 9th, 2013, students in kindergarten through high school are invited to attend. To enroll, the membership cost is $20.00; and each child will pay a small fee of $20.00 per week. Breakfast, lunch, and a mid-afternoon snack will be provided each day for all students.
Students will engage in arts and crafts, Spanish lessons, recreational activities, creating and painting animal pictures on rocks, a (2) day youth sewing class will be provided. The “Fabric of Dreams” book, by Anthony Mark Hankins will be used for the discussion of careers.. The summer program will stress reading and math in fun ways. Students will keep (3) favorite books close by, and when reading minutes are called! Everyone, in the program will read; including adults. Only reading will occur for that ten or fifteen minutes of time. Reading times will occur (2) times a day. There will be (2) math times, during the day at various levels. At which times, all students will grab their math pad/pencil and solve math problem.
Community speakers will also be scheduled to come and share programs with the youths such as: bike safety, texting, showing respect, how to keep a school notebook organized. Other sessions will include; how to stay out of trouble at school and on the bus.
Parents/Guardians will need to bring and pick up their child each day. The program starts each day at 7:30 a.m. and ends at 5:30 p.m. Applications are available at the Boys and Girls Club.
