Hackett Sentenced to 20 Years & $20,000 Fines

The sentencing portion of the trial began at 1 pm, with testimony from family members, from both the victim and the defendant.
Sentence ranges for both the manslaughter and abuse of a corpse charges are 3–10 years each, which may be run consecutively or concurrent.
The comments by the attorneys ranged from the state pointing out of the sentence of 3-10 years, that she could be paroled in only 1/6 of that time; to the defense’s presentation, describing how bad her life’s situations have been, that she’s never had a felony before, that her life salvageable.
And 1:45 the jury left the courtroom to decide on her sentence.

45 minutes later, the jury returned with maximum sentences of 10 years imprisonment and a $10,000 fine on both counts.
The sentences are to run consecutively, for a total of 20 years.
