MPD Investigating Body Found in Wooded Area, Near Parkwood Subdivision, on N. Hyatt
May 7th, 2022 by Joe Burgess
According to Monticello Police Chief Jason Akers, MPD is investigating a body found in a wooded area near the Parkwood Subdivision in what appears to be a suicide. The body was found around 11:00 a.m.
Chief Akers has confirmed that the body was located by youths who were playing in the area and that the deceased individual had a wound consistent with a self-inflicted single gun shot. A .38 caliber handgun was located at the scene.
The victim has been identified, but MPD does not release the names of victims while investigating matters of this nature until family has been notified. This is done out of respect to the family members of the deceased.
MPD Investigators and Supervisors used MPD’s Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (Drone) to assist in conducting a search of the wooded area near the body. The use of the drone was for locating potential evidence and obtaining aerial photography of the scene of the incident, should residents have noticed the drone in the area.
This investigation is ongoing.
