Bitcoin Mining Comes to Monticello
July 12th, 2023 by Joe BurgessRecently, out-of-town investors filed building permits in Monticello to construct/assemble data/bitcoin/cryptocurrency mining, in an area next to an Entergy substation, formerly referred to as the Cherry Street trailer park.
The first two, already in location structures, were there prior to the weekend.
The other two structures, shown next to the crane, were placed there Monday.
The proposed completed drawings presented to the city show the four structures surrounded by a safety fence and outside building to be the complete project.
It should be noted that if needed, there would be a large amount of room on the property for a future expansion.
When the video below was recorded at the Drew County, Quorum Court meeting, Monday night, the judge and JP‘s were not aware of the Cherry Street operation.
The county’s action does not cover any data mining operations that are licensed/approved inside and incorporated city, such as a Monticello.
According to City documents, the estimated investment is around $350,000, total.
