Korneal O’Lee Washington was born January 2 at 9:46 a.m., making him the first baby to arrive at Drew Memorial Hospital in 2016. At 8 lbs. 1 oz. and 19 inches long.
Korneal is the son of Kenise Bryant and Robert Washington of Dumas. The happy parents were joined by Korneal’s proud older siblings: Kamarion, Kamiah, Knaylen and Kanyla Washington.
The Drew Memorial Hospital Volunteer Auxiliary provides the Baby New Year family with a goodie basket each year. Monteene McCoy’s special interest as a volunteer is the nursery and children visiting the hospital. She makes sure children accompanying patients have toys and coloring books to pass the time. McCoy has enjoyed making newborn baby caps for years, estimating she’s been involved with the children and babies “ever since I’ve been here [in Monticello]”, and has an Auxiliary pin for reaching 9,000 hours of service to the hospital. Assembling the Baby New Year basket is an especially fun project for her. She explains “the basket includes everything you need for a baby!” This includes diapers, clothes, blankets, shoes, socks, baby powder, toys, and the bestselling book What to Expect the First Year.
