Hamburg Council Selects New Ambulance Service

At Monday nights Hamburg City Council meeting, the 6 alderman unanimously voted to pursue a contract with ProMed ambulance service, owned/operated by Ashley County native Ken Kelley. The service is based out of El Dorado, and, when in operation, will have two fully staffed and equipped ambulances operating out of the Hamburg fire station.
The current service provider, FAST, did not enter a bid to continue service in the Hamburg area, when bids were taken.
Several members in the audience asked questions, most of them were based on the expectation that FAST would continue as the service provider.
City attorney Paul Keith referred to the documents pictured above, when describing the specific verbiage in the election document, where a sales tax was approved by voters to help with compensation for the future service provider.
ProMed, the lowest bidder, actually will provide 2 full-time trucks in the area, as opposed to one truck (with 15 minute back-up) as stipulated in the bid announcement.
The possibility of the service also serving portions of Ashley County, outside of the Hamburg city limits, is still possible. That will also determine the amount of funding that the service will receive from the city, which will range between $20,000-$24,000/month
The next step in the process will be for the actual detailed contract negotiations between ProMed and the city, for the 3 year contract.
