The University of Arkansas at Monticello will be closed on Monday, January 21, 2019, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. All classes and offices will resume normal business hours on Tuesday, January 22, 2019.
UAM Student Programs and Activities will be honoring Dr. King’s legacy by hosting a dinner on Tuesday, January 22, 2019, from 5 pm to 7 pm. The buffet-style dinner will be held in the Gibson University Center’s Green Room. The price for dinner is $10.15 per person which will be collected at the door. All students with a university meal plan can eat free of charge. UAM’s Vice Chancellor for Student Engagements, Dr. Moses Goldmon, will be the guest speaker at the event.

Two faculty members, Dr. Matthew Pelkki and Dr. Matthew Olson, of the College of Forestry, Agriculture and Natural Resources at UAM, won awards at the 2018 Ouachita Society of American Foresters Conference held recently in Hot Springs. (more…)

UAM Professor Tom Richard was recognized as the 2018 Higher Education Educator of the Year at the awards ceremony of the Arkansas Art Educators Association Conference on November 1, 2018 in Little Rock, Arkansas. Dr. Peggy Doss, UAM’s Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs said, “Mr. Richard is so very deserving of this award that recognizes his outstanding talent and his distinguished service to the profession. Clinton D. Young, Associate Professor of History at the University of Arkansas at Monticello, has been recognized by the American Musicological Society for his scholarship. His first book, Music Theater and Popular Nationalism in Spain, 1880-1930, received the Robert M. Stevenson Award at the recent annual meeting of the AMS in San Antonio, Texas. (more…)

Karen Hyatt, Assistant Professor of Nursing at the University of Arkansas at Monticello, has been selected to serve a two-year term as a state consultant on the board of directors of the Arkansas Nursing Students’ Association (ANSA). Today the University of Arkansas at Monticello Music Theater Workshop announced it will present two one-act operas, The Old Maid and the Thief by Gian-Carlo Menotti and A Little Nightmare Music by P. D. Q. Bach. The performance will begin at 7:30pm on Friday and Saturday, November 16th and 17th at the UAM Fine Arts Center Auditorium. Both one-act operas will be performed both nights. Admission is free for UAM students, faculty and staff as well as children under 12. Tickets for students 12 through high school cost $5; adults $10. (more…)

Dr. Jodi Barnes, Station Archeologist at the University of Arkansas at Monticello Research Station will talk about the ongoing research at Hollywood Plantation, or the Taylor House as it is also known. The University of Arkansas at Monticello named 163 students to the Chancellor’s List for the 2018 spring semester and another 302 students to the Dean’s List, according to Carol Dolberry, registrar.
Selection to the Chancellor’s List requires a grade point average of 4.0 on at least 12 semester hours of course credit at the 1000-4000 level. The Dean’s List requires a grade point average of 3.5 or higher, also on at least 12 semester hours of course credit at the 1000-4000 level.
Registration for Kids’ University, a summer enrichment program at the University of Arkansas at Monticello, is now open through June 21, according to Rebecca Newton, program director.
Kids’ University, which will be held July 9-12, is open to children entering the first through sixth grades next fall. Registration may be completed online at http://www.uamont.edu/pages/resources/kids-university/. Registration must be completed by 5 p.m. June 21. Tuition is $100 and includes a t-shirt and all supplies. Space in the program will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
Jeff Weaver, vice president for external affairs at National Park College in Hot Springs, has been named vice chancellor for advancement at his alma mater, the University of Arkansas at Monticello. Stephanie Harton (right), director of the Arkansas Small Business and Technology Development Center at the University of Arkansas at Monticello was honored recently at the ASBTDC’s statewide meeting in Little Rock.
Harton was recognized as a member of the $3 Million Club, based on the dollar value of loans and other forms of capital funding that she helped small business clients attain in the 2017 calendar year. At left is ASBTDC State Director Laura Fine.
The University of Arkansas at Monticello will begin summer hours with a four-day work week beginning Monday, May 14.
Offices will be open from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday. All offices will be closed on Fridays. Summer classes will follow the Monday through Thursday schedule. The summer hours were adopted as a cost-saving measure to reduce utility usage.
