Colonel David Love Chapter met Wednesday, February 5, 2020 at Monticello Country Club for a brunch and presentation of DAR Good Citizens Awards to High School Seniors.  The students were selected by their Counselors based upon their dependability, service, leadership and patriotism and were given the opportunity to write a patriotic essay to compete for a State DAR Scholarship.

Entrepreneur and Farmer Bill Dunklin Kicks Off Campaign for State Senate

Bill DunklinLifelong Southeast Arkansas resident Bill Dunklin has officially kicked off his run for State Senate in Senate District 26, which includes Ashley, Bradley, Chicot, and Drew counties and parts of Cleveland, Desha, and Lincoln counties.

Dunklin has been active in Republican political circles his entire life but is no establishment candidate. Dunklin believes the District needs a citizen State Senator who is already making Southeast Arkansas a better place to live. He believes Southeast Arkansas will benefit most by a State Senator who is experienced in making his own living, not one trying to make a living from being in Government. (more…)

African American Coalition of Arkansas (ACAA) announces its inaugural Frederick Douglass & Abraham Lincoln (HBCU) Scholarship application

scholarshipThe AACA is proud to announce that it will offer 1 scholarship of $500 each to a student attending Arkansas Baptist College, Philander Smith College, Shorter College, and the University of Arkansas Pine Bluff.  The primary focus of the scholarship is to assist students attending historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) offering the opportunity to assist with tuition, books, or even housing.

Farm Bureau Insurance in Drew County Adds Ag Promise Certified Agent

MikeZimMike Zieman of Farm Bureau Insurance in Drew County has successfully become an Ag Promise Certified Agent with Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Company of Arkansas, Inc. An agent must complete both educational and experience requirements to become Ag Promise certified. By doing so, an agent becomes more knowledgeable about agricultural risks and can better provide risk management services that address the needs of farmers.

Sometimes it is difficult to find appropriate classes that are close to home and affordable. The University of Arkansas, Division of Agriculture, in partnership with the Division of Child Care and Early Childhood Association, is offering training for early childhood professionals.
