Assault on Officer leads to Fatality
August 15th, 2016 by iPhoneOn August 13th, at approximately 2:00pm, a Monticello Police officer was dispatched to a domestic violence complaint at Turtle Creek Apartments on Slemmons Street.
When the officer arrived he began talking to the couple involved. A short time later the male subject became irate. The officer reached for the male’s arm to place him in handcuffs. The male turned and grabbed the officer by the neck and they both went to the floor with the subject landing on top of the officer.
After a short scuffle the officer was able to get his Taser and deploy one cycle to stop the assault. The officer noticed the man’s breathing was abnormal, so he immediately called for an ambulance.
The subject was taken to Drew Memorial Hospital and passed away about an hour later.
The incident was captured on the officer’s body camera and witnessed by another person in the room.
The Arkansas State Police is conducting the investigation.

May the Lord ease the suffering for this victim’s poor family.
If it was caught on body camera, then let the footage speak for what happened. Not what we think might have happened. Prayers for ALL involved. The police need prayers just as much as the family!
Yes, let’s remember the victims family in our prayers. When a police officer is assaulted and has to use force to defend himself, that officers family also deals with the aftermath and fear that goes with the job.
