Armory Usage Taskforce Announced
September 7th, 2016 by Joe BurgessMayor Zack Tucker has announced the members of the Mayor’s Special Taskforce to Re-purpose the Monticello Armory to be chaired by former UAM Chancellor Jack Lassiter.
On August 26, Mayor Tucker established the advisory body with the purpose of provide recommendations for the re-proposed use of the former Arkansas National Guard Monticello Readiness Center located on Jordan Drive.
The taskforce shall consist of five members, namely one (1) City Council member, one (1) representative from the Parks & Recreation Committee, one (1) representative from the Monticello Economic Development Commission, and two (2) at-large residents representing the community.
Tucker “In the last two years the National Guard has closed nine armories. Cities have re-purposed them for community centers, police stations, emergency operation centers, and even classroom space for a local college.”
