Bradley County Doctor Charged with 53 Counts of Prescription Fraud in Drew Circuit Court
October 4th, 2012 by Joe BurgessA lengthy investigation by the Tenth Drug Task Force has led to 53 felony counts of Prescription Drug Fraud being filed against an area physician, formerly of Bradley County, who appeared Monday in Drew County Circuit Court.
Dr. Arthur Nieto’s arrest is the second arrest in this investigation, which the Task Force calls a “significantly large prescription drug fraud conspiracy.”
Amanda Hoover, age 30, was arrested in September.
Nieto and Hoover are charged with 53 counts of obtaining controlled substances, between September, 2001 and March, 2012 from local pharmacies, using 7 different names.
Dr. Nieto, who used to practice in Bradley County, is listed by the Arkansas Medical Board as specializing in Obstetrics & Gynecology. He DEA permit was suspended in early June, and his license is currently classified as “inactive” pending a hearing, scheduled for Thursday afternoon.
Nieto is accused by the Medical Board of “prescribing an excessive amount of controlled substances for his patients,” issues with pain medication and record keeping, violating the “romantic relationship” / “physician-patient relationship” protocol,
He now resides in the Helena area.
