“America’s Most Wanted” Arrested in Monticello

September 5th, 2012 by

On Tuesday, September 4th, Drew County Sheriff Mark Gober was contacted by an agent with the United States Marshal’s Service, based out of Little Rock, asking for assistance in the apprehension of a fugitive, Jonathan Jamel May, who is suspected of two counts of first degree murder and three counts of attempted murder in Detroit, Michigan. Sheriff Gober then contacted Monticello Police Chief Eddy Deaton and advised him of the situation.

According to information received from the Detroit Police Department, May along with two other suspects shot and killed a disabled couple, seriously injured another person, and shot at two other people on February 10th, 2012. After the airing of America’s Most Wanted on Saturday, information was obtained that May was living in Monticello.  At approximately 11:00 AM, the Drew County Sheriff’s Department, Monticello Police Department, and U.S. Marshals went to the residence located on Bailey Street where May was believed to be staying. Shortly afterwards May was apprehended without incident. May was transported to the Drew County Detention Facility where he was booked in on charges of two counts of first degree murder and three counts of attempted murder. May is currently awaiting extradition.

  1. Nana says:

Glad they’ve got him, but it just goes to show that you never know what your neighbors have been up to. Allegedly in on the killing of a disabled couple? That is frightening…

  2. Doug Knight says:

Congrats to DCSO and MPD for a job well done. I feel this is a good time to emphasize the point several of us have been trying to get across for years. Some of our citizens have the “Mayberry syndrone”, hopefully this incident will open theirs eyes to see the real world. We need to stand behind and support our law enforcement personel, this not only includes the ones and the street but also the dispatchers and office workers. They are the back bone of any department. Thanks again, it’s good to see DCSO and MPD working together!

  3. GRANMAW says:

    GOOD JOB!

  4. Ernie says:

This town is being infiltrated by these “thugs”. It’s about time to pack up and head up to northern AR to escape this madness. Good luck, Monticellonians.

  5. Sherry says:

Great job. And Ernie, there is crime everywhere. Good luck to you if you think there is not!

  6. matthews says:

Good Work Monticello DCSO & MPD!! and as for Sherry; AMAN!!!!

  7. Ernie says:

I understand crime is everywhere, but if you look at statistical information, you will find LESS crime in certain areas-particularly northern AR. Look at this place, Camden, Pine Bluff, and Texarkana for instance. Even smaller towns like McGehee, Dermott, and Eudora. Complete filth.

  8. tim says:

Erine you are 100% right, north Arkansas as way less crime and is a much better place to live!!!

  9. Just saying.. says:

Yes North Arkansas is a much better place to live, i use to live in a town about an hour from Little Rock and the crime rate there was very low, but yes crime will be everywhere, it’s inevitable

I want to say way to go America’s Most Wanted!!!! Would have never caught him without the airing of that show.
