Akin Family Re-acquires Akin Industries & 145 SEARK Jobs
April 10th, 2014 by iPhoneAkin Industries, started as a family business three decades ago, has been reacquired by the Akin family, specifically Mike and John. John is a third-generation owner of the business.
Six years ago, Akin Industries was sold to Joerns Healthcare. Joerns decided to reduce their company’s diversification, and offered to sell Akin Industries back to its original owners.
Mike Akin told MLive that the company plans to retain the same staff, management, and 145 employees (approximately half of these employees reside in Drew County.)
Akin added, “We plan to aggressively pursue healthcare, hospitality, and university housing markets, and step up national marketing as well, for all of these product lines.”
By doing so, Akin realistically believes that 50-75 additional jobs could be created in the next three years , which would mean using the companies Monticello buildings for more than offices and warehouse space.
As for closing thoughts, Akin simply said, “I’m glad to be back in the family owned manufacturing business.”
The business will market products under the brands of Akin , and its subsidiary, American of Martinsville.
