AG&F Report on Lake Monticello’s Progress
January 30th, 2018 by iPhoneLake Monticello was drawn down by eight feet during fall 2017 so that the City of Monticello could repair erosion on the levee.
Fisheries Biologists from District 5 and the AGFC’s Black Bass program are taking advantage of the low water levels to conduct habitat work on the lake.
This October we installed new fencing around the five vegetation pens, which were put in place to protect aquatic vegetation from Grass Carp.
The lake will be allowed rise by two feet and kept at that level through next winter. Keeping the lake at this level for a year will allow us to do more habitat work in 2018, while ensuring it remains accessible for boaters.
