Advertising & Promotion Notes: Member Up for Re-appointment
June 14th, 2012 by Joe BurgessMonticello’s Advertising and Promotion Commission met Monday at the MEDC office, planning to look at the Convention Center Planning budget for the remainder of 2012, but that was postponed until next month.
New business included:
discussing the MEDC and Chamber of Commerce’s websites “Community Calendars”. They are wanting a calendar similar to the MonticelloLive Calendar, but with more focus on “tourism drawing events.”
Also discussed was A&P secretary Kim Patel’s expiring term on the commission. Patel is involved in daily operation of the Days Inn and the Hampton Inn, and was appointed last year to the new commission.
Monday night’s meeting, with Mayor Allen Maxwell present, only brought positive comments from the other A&P members, when Patel’s term (expired at the end of May) was mentioned. The commission is required have 3 hotel operators on it, as well as 2 city council members.
With the recent heated discussions on the Advertising & Promotion Commission about a member wanting all funds to be designated for Convention Center study, and none for advertising and promotion,Patel’s re-appointmed, would seem to insure stability for that hotel owners, especially since both of the city council members leaving the commission and council due to them not seeking re-election.
Conversation at Monday’s meeting implied that the appointment-re-appointment would handled at tonight’s City Council meeting, but it wasn’t listed in the released agenda.
