Advertising & Promotion Commission Meeting – Term Expirations & Agenda
July 11th, 2012 by Joe BurgessThere is a regularly scheduled Advertising and Promotion Commission meeting was held Monday night at the MEDC building.
The only mention of the expired mention of expired member Kim Patel’s term, was a list of term expiration dates being handed out to board members. No replacement was discussed.
At last month’s meeting, commission member Kim Patel found out that her term had expired at the end of May. All comments by folks present seemed to support Kim Patel’s re-appointment.
Mayor Allen Maxwell told the group that he was unsure of the proper procedure to handle an expiring term.
Unconfirmed rumors are that Patel. will not be re-appointed, but that Rebbecca Heflin, manager of UAM’s Trotter House, will instead be appointed.
After the recent heated arguments about Advertising & Promotion funds being available for advertising and promotion, this could easily swing a vote away from the hotel/tourism supporters, by adding a UAM employee as a voting member
MLive had requested a copy of the meeting agenda early Monday morning, and received one at the meeting.
Joe Burgess of MLive did request, during the meeting to received a copy of the commission’s agendas, as well as all e-mails between board members (pertaining to board business), under the Freedom of Information Act.
4 or othe commision’s (7 or 6) member’s were present, along with Mayor Maxwell and UAM Chancellor Jack Lassiter.

Another fox in the hen house. Jack and Allen are stacking the vote for their Palace.
That ain’t nothing, wait til they replace the 2 city council folks with 2 that do what there told to do.
i thought they had to give the agenda out a day or two AHEAD OF THE MEETINGS.
You know this “tax” was approved by eight votes. If this commitee is completely shangai -ed bythe Allen and Jack show, then the participating hotels should question the legality of the whole tax period. The entire City of Benton voted whether or not to impose this tax on the hotels. D. Goerge you are right, they are trying to replace a board member that argues with Ms. MEDC with another mouthpiece from the Mayor and Chan. The twp City Council members wil be replaced with two Council members that agree with the Mayor, I predict Beverly Hudson and Tim Chase.
I predict Hubbard and Hartness.
I heard they were at a meeting last month.
Wow…how can we in monticello keep letting this happen. First the voters have complained about the council..but when the chance came to have major changes the voters stood and let the same old stuff happen again. Now this. I am not sure of all the actions of Ms. Kim, but i do know Ms Heflin was just hired at the UAM Trotter House less than a month ago. She has no real working knwledge of the parks and tourisim, nor does she have any valid experience in hotel management. This is definatly a stackng the board between the mayor and jack lassiter. People need to wake up. Dr lassiter is out for hs own benifits. You want to bet the new facility he and the mayor want to build with tiurisim dollars will be named the Jack Lassiter center. He wont retire til his name is on something. And as lng as the Mayor and him are bound , its a crazy time for us poor folks!
If you remember correctly wasn’t Kim Patel the one that wanted to have a hamburger tax? Really as though we are not taxed enough!!!
You know this is the mayor’s city so he doesn’t have to supply an agenda until he is ready. He needs to go be vice-chancellor at the college so he and Jack can take care of UAM but wait he wouldn’t have access to the city’s money to provide funds for them like he is able to do now so better stay in the Jack and Allen clubhouse for the time being.
P.S. When my family reunion gets here do you think the mayor will allow the fire trucks to come spray everyone down since it is so hot. Sounds crazy but my family is just as important as those he had the fire trucks spray down for 2 days to cool them off at the swim meet (Allen’s hobby). Wonder if that’s in the firemen’s job requirements?
You might be right, Hubbard blows like a leaf in variable wind and Hartness works for UAM and is anxious to please the hand that feeds her.
