At 2:45, the defendant, Emmitt Riley, took the stand.
Riley told the court that he was driving by, when he stopped to lend his phone to someone in the area, when Martin began cursing him.
Riley claimed that the confrontation was because of an issue between them, over the women in their lives, 2 years ago.
Riley also told that he didn’t know who hit who first. But recalls that after they were separated, that Martin stomped on Riley’s leg.
After being separated again, Riley told the court that he was “propped up on the hood of the Cadillac, when Martin pulled a knife. Riley also said that he never pulled a knife, that day.
When Riley told the jury, “I wasn’t trying to kill that man,” Spain quickly responded, by asking, “Did you shoot him in the leg, or tell him to stop,” before shooting him; Riley replied,”No.”
The defense rested their case at 3:20.
