Abby Searcy Leads UAM Women’s Rodeo Team To Second Place Finish At Boll Weevil Stampede
April 11th, 2018 by iPhoneSpurred by Abby Searcy’s victory in the barrel racing competition, the University of Arkansas at Monticello women’s rodeo team finished second in a seven-team field at the annual Boll Weevil Stampede Rodeo held last weekend at the Drew County Fairgrounds.
Searcy, a nursing major from Monticello, won the barrel race with a combined two-run time of 28.94 seconds for a total of 170 points, 50 points more than runner-up Abbi Holliday of Pearl River Community College. Southern Arkansas won the women’s team competition followed by UAM, West Alabama, Pearl River, Three Rivers College, Tennessee-Martin and Missouri Valley College.
Missouri Valley won the men’s competition followed by UT-Martin, Pearl River, SAU, West Alabama, East Mississippi Community College, Three Rivers and Murray State.
In addition to Searcy’s win in barrel racing, Whitney DeSalvo of Springfield, Ark., tied for second in team roping, posting a combined time of 13.7 seconds for 120 points. UAM had three competitors in the breakaway roping competition. Jessica Rowland of Bonnerdale led the way with 90 points to finish third overall. DeSalvo and Madison Webb of Glenwood failed to score.
