Meet the Candidates–Marion Township Constable Candidates–
May 18th, 2008 by Joe BurgessJoe Burgess is seeking the position of Constable of Marion Township (Monticello and the surrounding area) currently held by Raymond Chisom.
Joe Burgess owns and operates MonticelloLive.com, and is also employed by the court system. He has 12 years experience in the fields of law enforcement, security, and of service to the courts. Burgess also serves as worship leader at Northside Baptist Church.Â
Burgess explained that the constable is an elected law enforcement position, but that he does not intend to compete with law enforcement agencies, but rather in a supportive roll, if elected.
Burgess said that, “If I’m at a fire or accident scene in the area covering the news for MonticelloLive, and the other deputy is on the way from Rock Springs or Wilmar, then I’ll be able to “legally” assist as needed, more than just a “news reporter” that’s at the scene.
Raymond Chisom began his public service career in 1974, with the Sheriff’s Auxilliary and Civil Defense. Chisom started with the Fire Dept. in 1975, and retired as Monticello Fire Chief in 2004. He has been Constable since 1989, and works as a Baliff for the Sheriff’s Dept.
