Rotary Club Honors Scout of the Year

The Rotary Club of Monticello recently awarded Noah Minchewthe “Scout of the Year” award for 2018 at Rotary’s annual student scholarship and awards luncheon.
Noah is a member of local Monticello Troop 67 sponsored by First United Methodist Church and he recently achieved the rank of Eagle Scout.
Each year Monticello Rotary Club recognizes an outstanding Boy Scout as the Scout of the Year, and presents a trophy known as the “Mackenzie Award”.
The actual trophy is a replica of a large famous sculpture created by Dr. Robert Tait Mackenzie (1867- 1938) who was a personal friend of the “father” of scouting: Lord Robert Baden-Powell.
Mackenzie was also lifelong supporter of scouting both in the U.S. and internationally. The original sculpture is called “The Ideal Scout” and the trophy awarded to the scout of the year is a replica of this sculpture and is subsequently called the “Mackenzie Award”.
Boy Scouts, by creed, hold themselves to the higher ideals of a man’s commitment to family, God, nation, and service to their fellow human being. The Scout of the Year represents the best of all scouts: awarded to the young man who has exhibited leadership, service, and the principles of scouting above and beyond his peers.
It is a great distinction among the scouting community to be awarded this honor.
