Lake Monticello’s Future on Agenda for Tonight’s City Council Meeting, 6 pm, in Old Post Office

July 25th, 2017 by

IMG_0362IMG_0385This  largemouth bass was caught in Lake Monticello, late last week.  Will fish like continue to be caught there, or wi

ll the lake be closed for 5-10 years, due to re-stocking?

The City Council has approved lowering the level of the lake, due to levee/dam  repair, which is expected to start next month.

Tonight, the AG&F is expected to recommend totally draining Lake Monticello over the next year, then restocking/refilling it, for three years,   in hopes of eliminating the fish they don’t want there, and increasing the largemouth bass that they do want.

Please note that the 2nd Chance for Dogs discussion and reevaluation of City’s Mobile Home ordnance topics have been postponed until next month, due to the expected length of this meeting.

  1. Joe says:

Perhaps I missed a previous article explaining the timelimlne, but where does the 5 – 10 year estimation come from? You say 1 year to drain and 3 years to fill and restock. That’s 4 years. Am I missing something?

Response: Correct. But to estimate when it would actually become a viable, fishsble lake, are estimated to take longer.

once stocked it will take a few years for fish to grow to catching size. before they would allow fishermen back on lake
